I was blessed recently to be able to add 2 more members to the Schreiber household, Abigail & Hunter. I adopted these two precious kittens from the Yavapai Humane Society and am so excited to have them in my home. I can honestly say that I had forgotten what it was like to have kittens around since my 2 cats I had before, Sweety & Smokey were 14 & 9 respectively when they passed away. I waited a couple of months, after the passing of my oldest cat Sweety in March of 2010, before taking a cat from Pat & Heather Eddolls, my band mates in Covenant 31, but he was already between 1 1/2 and 2 years old. I ended up naming him “Buddy” and he has been a great companion, but I still couldn’t shake the feeling inside that I wanted kittens. I finally started spending some time at the Humane Society about a month ago asking questions about adopting and looking at kittens. I wasn’t sure when the right time would be to get them, but finally Kelly, our Radio Shine receptionist approached me and said she had a female calico kitten that she had been fostering for the Humane Society and because the kitten was underweight she had to keep her longer than the rest of the litter before taking her back. She and her husband, Scott, had become attached to Abigail and wanted to make sure she went to a good & loving home, so after stopping by and spending some time with the kitten I told Kelly I would adopt Abigail. I found out from the Society that they had a buddy program where if you adopted 2 kittens from 2 different litters you would only pay the price for one of them and the other was free. After finding out that they pay for the spay and neutering, microchip them for free, give you 30 days free pet insurance and that the first wellness check at the vet’s for both kittens were free I was sold on the idea. The only problem was finding a second kitten, as I am a pet lover and was dreading having to go make a decision on finding another one. Well the day came and I headed down to see what other kittens were available. As I walked in to the cat area and started passing by the cages I immediately wanted to take all of them home with me. I was almost to the end of the row when this one little face peeked at me from the top of a box he was laying in and in an instance I knew that this was the one kitten I would choose to take along with Abigail. To be fair I did take some time with some of the other kittens, but couldn’t shake the feeling that Hunter was meant for me. Since bringing them both home I have had some sleepless nights and been kept busy keeping them out of things they aren’t supposed to get into and cleaning up some messes that they have made, but am loving every moment of bonding with my 2 new buddies and seeing them develop their bond with my older cat. The enjoyment they bring is priceless!
