We need your help to get summer meals

to our kids

We all remember as a kid how exciting it was to anticipate that long, hot summer break.  In our community, 1 out of 3 of kids are food insecure.  These kids and their families depend on the free and reduced price breakfasts, lunches and snacks during the school year to meet nutritional needs.
What happens to these kids in the summer?
This year, Yavapai Food Council is partnering with AZ Department of Education to provide the USDAs Federal Summer Food Service Program throughout Yavapai County communities.  Free, nutritious breakfasts and lunches will be packed into summer lunch bags at Sedona’s Red Rock High School and at Prescott Unified High School for pick-up by Yavapai Food Council volunteers for delivery to partnering sites with structured summer youth programs.
Would you like to help feed our kids this summer?  If so, we looking to fill the last few volunteer slots for pick-up and delivery in West Sedona through August 1st, 2014.
Deliveries are Monday through Friday mornings with food pick-up at Red Rock High School between 8:30 and 9:30am.  Delivery destinations include Sedona Charter School, Sedona YMCA, West Sedona School and Creative Life Center.
Volunteers must be dependable with a valid drivers license, auto insurance, and be able to lift up to 25 pounds (individually or as a team).  Volunteer’s vehicles should be able to accommodatea minimum of (3) Igloo Coolers.
If you would like to apply as a volunteer to help us get Free Summer Meals to our kids, email Amy Aossey (amy@yavapaifoodcouncil.org) or call 928-254-8172.
