Outreach and Education Through Webcasting.

Matt Francis, a Prescott resident, will be the guest speaker at the Third Thursday Star Talk onThursday January 15, 2015 to be held at the Prescott Public Library in the Founders Suite from 6:30 PM to 8 PM. Matt holds a BS degree in electrical engineering. His background includes electron microscopy and research and development for the semiconductor industry.

Matt owns the Prescott Observatory that is nestled in the hills south of Prescott.  The Prescott Observatory is the home of three scientific endeavors: Solar, Deep Sky, and microscopy. The main function of the solar observatory has been to collect data and to provide live feeds of the sun to SLOOH Space Camera.

The SLOOH Community Observatory offers the ability to reach hundreds of thousands of people in a single broadcast.  SLOOH has advanced Matt’s outreach goals for Prescott Observatory on a scale that he never imagined.  Matt will describe his experience with webcasting, the equipment involved and the techniques used to provide live image and video feeds.
