For the free, public Aviation History Program at Embry-Riddle, Colonel John Dale, USAF, (Retired) of Big Lake, Alaska, and a Tucson, Arizona, snowbird, presents a multi-media history of the previously classified Strategic Air Commands’ drone reconnaissance efforts in China, North Korea, and the Vietnam Conflict.¬† This presentation incorporates all aspects of the program to include operational areas, mission capabilities, system performance, changes made to adapt to changing defensive capabilities, DC-130 carrier aircraft crew duties, and CH-3 mid-air drone recovery. ¬†During Linebacker II, the final bombing of North Vietnam, Colonel Dale was in charge of all drone reconnaissance missions flown from U-Tapao AB, Thailand, to cover the bombing efforts.
