John Muir Chautauqua
30 Oct 2014
7:00 pm-9:00 pm Located at: Prescott College Chapel
Prescott College Professor Doug Hulmes engages mind, body, and spirit in this chautauqua – a theatrical performance presenting an environmental perspective of the American West through the eyes and words of John Muir, one of the nation’s first impassioned advocates for wilderness and national parks. This is storytelling at its best as Hulmes brings to life true tales of Muir’s adventures and experiences as an early champion of National Parks and the idea of preserving nature for its own sake. Hulmes’ moving performance reminds audiences that Muir’s vital messages from the past are clearly relevant today.
Hulmes has been performing as John Muir since the early 1990s throughout Arizona for a variety of organizations, schools, libraries, state parks, and lecture series. He has also performed throughout the intermountain West as well as in Norway and Scotland. Hulmes has won many awards, both for his performance of John Muir and also for his work as an environmental educator.
Free admission. This program was made possible by Arizona Humanities.
